Q: How do I pronounce "Fyodor Dostoevsky?"

A: It is pronounced Fyo'der, as two syllables. In Russian, a 'yo' is always stressed.  The closest English equivalent for the surname is DahstahYEHfsky. The two O's reduce unlike in English (like ah's or short i's), and the V sort of sounds like a F (weak).

I rose, went forth, and followed Thee." -Charles Wesley
