You can grow with him by reading them in order. There are so many themes that he returns to and develops. The idea is that by the time you reach The Brothers Karamazov you will be familiar with many of these concepts and will be able to draw from your experience.

I have been thinking about this since your wrote it, but you left off some minor works in the list you gave.  Do you know where I can find a list of the order of all of Dostoevsky's works?

Oh yes, I did leave out all but the "major" stuff. I guess I am partial to that way because that is how it worked out for me... Smiley. But I think it is good even so, because you are enticed to read more later. It gives you a good feel of what to look for in the others and a drive to go back and dig them all up... There's a list on the site under "literary works." I suppose it's complete but I don't really know. Some appear to be unavailable unfortunately, if you can believe that!
Also, there are a lot of suggestions for reading C & P first -- and now that I think about that, it sounds more reasonable than my advice. For some reason the Notes from Underground caught my attention enough to get me to move on to Crime, but this may not always be the case... so for an introduction to Dostoyevsky, Crime is probably the place. Ah... I am beginning to rhyme. Cheesy That's scary...

I'd have to say start off with Notes from the Underground/The Double as it is an easier set of books to read.  From there go into Crime + Punishment.  From there into The Idiot.  From there into The Brothers Karamazov.
