Hmm, that didn't work.

Can someone tell me how to get my own pic on the side bar? I tried to specify the location on my hard drive with my picture in the Edit Profile area, but it didn't work.

Is the image you were trying to upload a .jpg or .gif file? Porbably a stupid question, but if it's another type of file, you may need to convert it.

What's the pic?

Poor Knight, you need to have the JPG photo uploaded to a website somewhere online.  It can be anywhere - you just have to reference the JPG exactly where it is.

Example: http://www.mydomainname.com/images/myphoto.jpg

At this point, I don't think you can upload your own avatar image on this particular board for security reasons.

I'm the newbie highseas(you can call me high) & I'm a newbie in more ways than one since I am new to the world of PC's & the internet too, so excuse my clumsiness.
I've read everything by FD at least once and a couple of his novels twice.  I'm interested in all things "Dostoevsky" and in a couple of years when I retire will have more time to research him.
There are alot of college students, I noticed, who love FD, which is great.  I was a little surprised to see that he is so popular with the younger generation.
Well I'll bore you no more.  I look forward to these forum discussions.  PEACE & LOVE!!!!!

my name isn't worm - i can't change that username

i've worked in a dept. store a while ago

nice to find someone who's not only interested in FD, but also willing to talk about it.  That's very rare these days, imo.

again; welcome on the board

Yes it is, but it would be even harder without internet. I have yet to meet anyone who even knows Dostoevsky's name (with the exception of my friend's mom). But, since my friend is rather well-read, in English lit at least, I will be trying to get him to read Dostoevsky. I brought The Idiot to school with me and he said he wanted to borrow it some time.

Concerning my life, notmuch has happened this summer because I'm still a highschooler.

Maybe I should start by saying that this is my first time on a forum. My social, private and professional life(s) have been always too busy for that. . . (And I even managed to meet people who liked Dostoevsky).

In the beginning of this year my husband and I moved to Sweden since he was offered a wonderful contract here (he makes video games). The worst thing was that I had to leave my job (as a book publisher) and I’m not sure I’ll find something similar here – no matter how good my Swedish will eventually (and hopefully) get. The good thing was that this Swedish company was interested enough to pay an enormous sum of money so I could bring my small antique collection, my big book collection and my huge dog – things that helped me keep my mental sanity during the firs months.  Smiley

My closest friends are scattered around the world these days, so the best of my social life somehow moved on the internet. But I’m not complaining – I can get along with a very small amount of sleep, I’m addicted to reading and I still have more hobbies than time. I hope next year I’ll graduate my Swedish classes, go back to University and star over. . .

Unfortunately, my best friend (in Berlin) is dying of cancer and since neither of us is religious, the only means I have to spare him the pity and help him keep the little dignity he can afford are our sense of humor and the unseen beauty that surrounds us.

I'm not a fan of Internet-friends~i make a distinction between real-life and internet-friends.  Internet friendship can be very nice... but real-life is real friendship.
Internet blocks the face, the movements, ... and is more at a distance... it's a half-friendship, in a way. Smiley

I'm very happy to be a part of this qualitative forum, but there aren't any obligations to this thing at all.
But i do enjoy the feeling of a group on here... I wonder for example, what Axon is doing, and when he'll be back online.  There's a small (very small) community here.

The brief story you told of yourself is nice to read. Smiley
how can people not love people?
... and who knows... what the future will bring?

my sympathies for your friend in Berlin.........

Ty

And lol – I meant that my best moments these days are spend with my good old friends on msn with a microphone, camera etc

I’m afraid I’m too old to make other kind of friends

Just that sometimes it’s easier to talk about something like my friend in Berlin with people u don’t know – there are no obligations
