I've read the first 20pages or so the other day for the first time, and am completely in love with it already.  Super material!

.. and what a relief from reading the feverish proze of Dostoevsky .. Tolstoy reads much more peacefully..

True but I had trouble caring about any characters in the books except Levin.

I am reading it now and I definitely prefer Dostoyevsky. I do not particularly feel empathy with any of the characters, apart from Levin who is, by far, the most 'real' character of the book. The female characters especially seem to lack depth.

The genius of Dostoyevsky lies in exploring the extremes of humanity whereas Tolstoy is much better at exploring the normality of human behaviour. Both authors excel at their respective aims but I simply prefer the Dostoyevskian fantastic to the Tolstoian mundane.

Having said that, I did enjoy War and Peace but that is a hugely different book to Anna Karenina.

Judging this post, and the other one you made, I believe you haven't been in a real relationship, yet.... right?  ... which would explain your lack of caring and incredible boredom with the book..

it's just a lucky guess, don't hit me if i'm right!

Nice little book, but I liked Resurrection slightly better. But anything Tolstoy writes is epic. Read him russian, please!!! I learn english just so I can read Aldous Huxley when I was fifteen...haha He didn't come across right in serbian or russian and I didn't fully understand him until I learn english.
