I was wondering if anybody knew from which one of his works does the quote "The world will be saved by beauty, or it will not be saved" comes from.

Also it would be great if you could tell me where else Dostoevsky talks about beauty.

Hmmm, good question.  I'll see what I can find.  I do believe beauty is talked about several times in Demons.

Marosh was the first to post a 'beauty' quote from a Dostoevsky novel.  He 'wins'.  Wink

2 questions:
1. There was a contest?
2. What does Marosh win?

Congarts Marosh!

In an interesting footnote to this post I've just read that we never hear the Prince say these words but they are attributed to him by both Ippolit and Aglaya.

Not sure if you're still interested, but beauty is discussed at length in Demons by Stepan Trofimovich in "The Fete: Part 1" Chapter 4 where he argues mankind "cannot live without beauty."

So ... beauty will save mankind from the evil that is in mankind?

Is there any other evil in the world, than the evil that is in man?

From TBK

"Beauty is a terrible and awful thing! It is terrible because it has not been fathomed, for God sets us nothing but riddles. Here the boundaries meet and all contradictions exist side by side."

"The awful thing is that beauty is mysterious as well as terrible. God and the devil are fighting there and the battlefield is the heart of man."

And what do you think yourself?  Or are you a Dostoevsky-drone?
