hi,
im rashmi...
i have C n P as my text this year...i have immensely enjoyed reading this novel  Smiley and  i was wondering if u could help me on some info on the topic doubleness or spilt personality on all the charecters in general Undecided...as in the similarity between the charecters....their dreams/nightmares...etc....also on the topic that sonia is a sex worker....how do i analyse the use that dostoevsky makes of this basic paradox in c n p....i'll be really grateful Smiley...waiting fer a reply soon...

Well, here's an interesting tid-bit:

"Raskol" in Russian means "schism" or "split".
Raskolnikov definitely has a split personality, always 2nd guessing himself and controdicting himself.  He has two sides:  The side which shows his Alienation from Society (usually he is desperately trying to adopt the master-morality), and the side that shows him following the "Slave-Morality" (praying, shows Christian values, etc).
