I recently saw an adaptation of "The Gambler" (1997), with Michael Gambon as Dostoevsky. It was a sort of mixture between the actual novel and Dostoevsky's life - namely, about his relationship with Anna Snitkina.

Now, although I find Gambon to be a wonderful actor, I don't think he was a suitable choice for Dostoevsky at all. And some parts weren't to my liking, but I still recommend it.

For that ones who likes: Woody Allen is a constant reader Dostoyevsky's books, and made lots of movies based on the russian's works.

And there is a good one, Pickpocket, by Robert Bresson, wich is an adaptation from The Gambler.

P.S.: sorry for the eventually english mistakes, I'm brazilian, and I'm just learning this language.

they stopped filming series about the mafia, cops and cheap love stories at last!

really? i didn't know  Cheesy they're still filming it due to ratings, unfortunately  Sad

the mentioned mini-series "The Idiot" haven't impressed me at all. quite soulless film. anyways i didn't expect nothing good from Bortko. and in general i don't like the idea of tv-adaptations. the literature's great advantage is that it makes you to create your own picture through imagination and doesn't impose nothing.

Oh man, I love Michael Gambon.  I need to find this one...thanks for letting us know about this one!

Beauty is mysterious as well as terrible. God and the devil are fighting there and the battlefield is the heart of man.
