Im looking to read TBK and i was wondering what was the best translation of it.

If it helps, i liked the pevear version of Crime and Punishment.

ok well after putting up this post ive done some research.  And it seems its between two versions.

The David Magarshack's version or the Peaver? Atleast from what ive read other people say those two are the best, is that right or wrong? is one greatly better than the other?

read both and find out which one you like most! two very different styles of translations - it all depends on what you're looking for: a good "easy" read? or an accurate portrail of the author's own words.

when it comes to translations, i just look at if it's in my own language and if it's readable.... i'm more fascinated with the content of the book, than with every word being translated correctly... but that's just my own pariah-opinion, as always... what a freak i am...

I actually have a hardcover, Russian language version of TBK that a friend gave me years ago.  It calls my name, just begging me to read the one true version that supercedes translation.  But alas, not knowing Russian, I have to ignore it.  It kills me!   Cheesy

...I was even able to read it correctly once, but I couldn't understand the meaning of what I was saying, so.... sob! Cry
(And I have Puskin's daughter of the captain in Russian Smiley)
