It seems like yesterday that we had the 500 posts thread but now we already have 1000 in less than 4 months.  Keep up the great discussions everyone!  Grin

At this point, FyodorDostoevsky.com has now risen to #21 on Google for 'fyodor dostoevsky'.  It will most likely keep rising until it is in the top 10 as the Page Rank for the website is already at 5 which is phenomenal for such a new website....Once in the top 10, we'll have almost all the Dostoevsky fans in the world here on this forum, I think.  Cool

Wasn't it like only 2 weeks ago when you posted the "500 Posts" thread?

Congrats Fyodor!  Do you know what moves a website up the rankings?
Visits? Page views? Number of posts?

I noticed yesterday that we were getting close to 1000, and it made me excited.  Smiley It would be so amazing to have all the Dosto fans in the world here. But that's not too far off, eh?

I'm going to, for your sake, assume you meant definition one. Wink
Oh, and I sent you a private message telling you what to do if you meant definition 2.

LMAO  Grin Cheesy

yes, I was leaning more towards the second definition,
and since you really didn't get the point (judging from the obscene private message you have sent me) I will end this thing for my part here. Nice "moderating" golyadkin!  Roll Eyes

Um.. just wondering, but in most cases everybody're calling Dostoevskiy 'Dosto' for short here.. it is just so unnatural for my pooe russian ear to short names in such a way, how about calling him FM? (it has its double meaning even! we use FM on the radio, rather then AM) but all in all, in my humble opinion, it would be more respectable to Feodor Mihalich.

I think as long as we all know who is being referenced it shouldn't really matter.  We all come from different areas and we're use to different things.  I think it would just be an unnecessary hassle to put restrictions on how we refer to the man whom this website is dedicated to.
Americans show respect Dostoevsky in their silly American fashion... it might not be politically correct but it is respect nonetheless.
Sorry for the inconvenience, but as long as there are non-Russians here they will do things the non-Russian way (including spelling things oddly).

Actually, Nastya brings up a good point.  I've seen Dostoevsky abbreviated as FMD, FD, Dost, D, etc. and his works as TBK, C&P, NFU, etc.  Sometimes, it's easier just to abbreviate things rather than use the long terms over and over in various threads.

As Ivan said, there's no 'policy' here but feel free to abbreviate if you want.  I don't mind it at all...

I agree with Ivan completely, no matter the spelling, (and especially in a long post) we all know who we are talking about. Personally I think "D" is all we need  Tongue

*rising hands in defeat*
I didn't mean to offend anybody or decry in a way.. Just found it a funny nickname - Dosto Smiley)
I often use abbreviations myself, and understand how hard it is sometimes to write long names, but if FMD, D, FM, or even Dost is understandable, Dosto just reminds me of some names from children cartoons - Dodo, Lolo Smiley) I know my associations are really weird sometimes.

H. (if i'm signing, using only the first letter of my name, who i am to complain about short forms? ) Cheesy
