If your answer is "Other", please specify. Remember, Dostoyevsky is not included because if he was on the list, I doubt that anyone would vote for anyone other than him. Wink

Well, it doesn't seem that anyone voted anyway. Cry

I like Alexander Solzhenitzyn (sp?).  Good stuff...

I would have put his name here, but, as you well know, I am restricted to only 8 poll options.

Kuprin is a good, lesser known author.

"The Duel" is the only one I have read so far. It is about the futility of life in the Tsarist military.

Other ones such as Yama (the Pit), which is about prostitution, are supposed to be good. You can find Yama on Blackmask.

Thanks. Once I get a bookshelf and enough time to get and read all these books (Kuprin's, Gogol's, Dostoevsky's, and all the other ones that I have heard about on this site in the past month), I'll be sure to. Currently, thanks to the recommendations of people on this site, I have a queue of books a mile long to read. At least I have something to do on the 8-hour plane flight to Hawai'i this Sunday. Wink

Voted for Leo Tolstoy.  I have read here and there in his "War and Peace".  I haven't read anything of the other authors in your list.  I'd definitly like to check out Gogol's famous "Dead Souls".  I am anxious for it .. but alas, i don't have enough time to read everything i want, and to process it all.

I was unaware that he wrote that. I kinda cheated when I made this list, 'cause I got it off of a Google directory. I just randomly picked the names of Russian authors and put them here.

By the way: this post is the first triple-same-digit post ever on this site! It's number 111 for me!

Anton Chekhov is a very fine writer, but he must be read in Russian by one whose Russian is flawless. The English translations of his work are abominations. I think that "Three Sisters" cannot be understood by anyone who does not speak Russian fluently. Chekhov is also a dead ringer for Eric Clapton.

The Dostojewski books you read won't help you much with your sanity either, you know.  Wink

Where do you think the penguins came from in the first place?  Wink
