What do u think of Dostoevsky's portrayal of poor people in Poor Folk?

I know Dostoevsky was poor as a child but do u think it influenced the novel? How do u think he portrayed them and why??

I don't know that D was necessarily that poor as a child. I don't really know what he meant by poor, poor in spirit? poor as in no money? There are many senses of the word.

The portrayal of Gorshkov, and Gorshkov's family was very accurate, in practically every sense. Which is why I wish Fyodor had written more about the lot! The story, in my poor eyes, was hurt by the sentimental love story between two (however distant) cousins. Too many loose ends that I'm not sure he could have covered in that format of letters.

Not nearly as accurate a portrayal as I'd hoped.
