My favorite Russian author (after Dostoyevsky, of course) has got to be Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol. He wrote The Overcoat and The Nose. They are both short stories, but they are hilarious. The Nose is about a man whose nose actually jumps off his face, dresses up as a general, and is accepted by the general public as a regular person. There is actually a scene in the book where the man and his nose talk to each other. Gogol is (or, at least, was) a genius.

gogolj is great, i really like story's from Petersburg (i'm not sure if that's the english title)

but probably one of the best Russian novels from the 19th century is Oblomow by Gontjarow.

Beware, this book is not like any work by Dostoewsky you know, it's not religious and not political, but great anyway. it tells the story of a lazy ass hopeless romantic kind of guy, a little like some puskin/gogolj characters you might know.

Oblomov? Really, you liked him? I nearly finished it, and only because of the composition we were to write.. it was really boring, like the man himself, I guess..  but all in all, 'oblomovshina' is said to be a russian national feature Smiley)
